FAQ about the Medication Aide Prep Course:

1. What are the requirements?
You must be 18 years of age or older, have a high school diploma or GED, be able to read, write and understand English.
2. When I get hired by a facility, what else will I need?
You will be background checked, finger printed, drug screened, and any other requirements your facility uses for hiring.
3. What is the cost of the state exam for Med Tech?
$25.00. This fee does not go to our organization.
4. Do we take the state exam in class?
No. I will give you the list in your package of where you can take the exam, some of the testing sites are held on community college campuses all across North Carolina.
5. What is included in the class fee?
Your Med Tech study guides practice test, answer key, training (Prep course) and application for the state exam. You will pay your own state exam fee when mailing in the application.
6. How many are in a class?
There is a minimum of four students and a maximum of fifteen.
7. How do I register?
View the “Registration & Payment Page” on this website. All classes are filled on a first come, first serve basis with payment.
8. Where are the classes offered
We offer this prep course at one of our offices in Durham, NC near Northgate Mall. We are just off the I-85 highway. Just give us a call for directions.
9. Are you a testing center?

10. Do we take the Medication Aide State Exam the same day at the end of the class session?
No. You do not take the Medication-Tech exam the day of class. There are over 40 regional testing locations throughout North Carolina where you will schedule your Medication Tech exam.

Family Care Homes Start-Up Class:

1. Where are classes located?
All classes are located in Durham, NC. If you would like to see courses being taught in your town please send us an email. Your requests will help us to determine the high demand for classes needed in your town.
2. How many days does the Family Care Home Start-Up Class consist of?
This course is taught in four (4) days and an optional fifth day for review and mock exams. Altogether, the course consists of 20- 25 hours. The class meets on Mondays , Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 8:30 – 1:30pm (5 hrs.) and on Saturdays from 10:00 – 3:00pm for review.
3. Are the manuals included in the price of the Start-Up Course?
No. The manuals are purchased separately. Students may purchase the manuals either online or during class sessions.
4. What if I miss a day of class out of the 4 days of class instruction?
You will be able to reschedule for the following week when that particular class topic is being taught or you may attend the class on any other date that class is taught at no additional charge. There are no refunds for missed classes
5. What is your policy for inclement weather?
We follow the Durham Public School closings schedule. If the Durham Public Schools are cancelled due to inclement weather then our classes will also be cancelled for that day. Be sure to watch the announcements for school closings on the local news channel to know whether the Durham Public Schools are cancelled due to inclement weather.
6. Will taking this course guarantee that my home or the property I locate become a licensed facility?
No. This course does not guarantee that any property will become licensed by the State for the operation of a family care home. The State has their own team (Construction Team) that comes out to inspect the property according to the State’s guidelines for family care homes. We will discuss and go over the criteria that the state looks for in a property that would make it eligible to become a licensed facility.

Adult Care Home Administrator Licensure Exam:

1. How do I obtain an exam registration packet?
We will have registration forms to pass out to students during the class session. We will go over the instructions on how to fill out the form. You may also obtain an exam registration packet by e-mailing your name and address to AdultCare.ctu@dhhs.nc.gov or call the ACLS office at 919-855-3793, Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.
2. What is the fee for taking the Administrators’ Licensure Exam?

Administrator Exam ($50.00 fee)

To register for the Administrator Exam, you must submit a registration form and required $50.00 testing fee at least 14 days prior to the exam date. Payment of the $50.00 testing fee must be in the form of a money order or certified check made payable to “DHSR.” Checks are not accepted. Fees are non-refundable and non-transferable once submitted to DHSR. Payment will not be accepted at testing sites.

The completed registration form and required testing fee must be received before you will be registered for a specific testing date and location. Mail your completed registration form and $50.00 fee (money order or certified check) together in one envelope to:

3. When will I receive a confirmation letter from Dept. of Service Regulations regarding my test date?
If you do not receive a confirmation letter within 10 business days from the day you mailed your registration, please contact the ACLS via e-mail at AdultCare.ctu@dhhs.nc.gov or by phone at 919-855-3793 Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. until 4 p.m. ACLS is not responsible for lost, misdirected or delayed mail. Any questions regarding test locations or scheduling, contact the ACLS office. Do not contact the test sites with questions about the testing or schedules.
4. What if I have to cancel, I can’t attend my test session, and I have to reschedule?

Cancellation and Re-scheduling

If you are unable to attend your scheduled exam, you must notify ACLS at least five business days before the examination date to re-schedule. Saturday and Sunday and national holidays are not considered business days. If you provide at least five business days advance notice, you may re-schedule one time and your fee may be transferred to your new examination date. If you need to re-schedule an examination in less than five business days before the examination date, you must apply for an excused absence.

If you do not call ACLS at least five business days before your examination date to re-schedule and do not show up for your scheduled examination, your fee will not be refunded and can not be transferred to a new examination date. Also, you may not give your examination date to another person.

Weather Emergencies/Inclement Weather

Testing will be canceled if weather conditions are considered hazardous for local travel or for commuting. Information on cancellations may be obtained by:

5. How do I obtain my test results?

Obtaining Exam Results

You will receive the results of your exam in the mail at the address provided on your registration form. If you did not pass the exam and intend to take it again, you must complete another registration form and pay the testing fee each time you take the exam. The Adult Care Licensure Section (ACLS) is located in the Broughton Building at 805 Biggs Drive, Broughton Building, Raleigh, NC. You may contact the testing staff at 919-855-3793 between the hours of 8:30 a.m. – 4 p.m., Monday through Friday or via e-mail AdultCare.ctu@dhhs.nc.gov.

What to bring:

You must have the following items with you to take the exam:

One form of proper photo identification


Two (2) No. 2 pencils


Eraser


Administrator Exam – a current rule book is allowed for use during the exam.


Alternative Exam – Calculator is allowed for use and recommended.


Proper identification includes one of the following:

Current, non-expired driver’s license


US government issued Military I.D.


State-issued identification card


Passport (Current and non-expired)
8. What happens if I am late to the testing center?
In order to allow time for check in, you are to arrive at least 30 minutes before the examination starts. If you are late for the written examination you will not be allowed to test and your fees will not be refunded. You will have to register again and pay another registration fee.

Our staff will help you fill out the registration form (that you will send in with the $25.00 fee) at the end of the class session. You will pay your own State exam fees when you mail in the application to the Sate. The Med-Tech Sate exam is $25.00. This money does not go to our organization and is NOT needed on the day of class.
